Food Dehydrators

A food dehydrator provides controlled heat and airflow to remove moisture more consistently than open-air methods. Choose a dehydrator with a thermostat and a fan, and follow tested procedures for the particular food.

Arrange food in a single layer, allow air to circulate and check for adequate dryness before packaging. Do not rely on a dehydrator alone to make raw meat safe for jerky; follow the additional pathogen-control steps specified by USDA.
