Irradiated foods

Some foods are irradiated to reduce microbial hazards, delay sprouting or ripening, or control insects. Irradiation does not sterilize every treated food, and treated products still require appropriate storage and handling.

In the United States, irradiated foods subject to applicable labeling rules may carry the Radura symbol and prescribed wording; requirements differ for ingredients and foodservice uses.
