Older adults

Older adults have a higher risk of serious illness from some foodborne infections. Changes in immune function and the presence of other medical conditions can increase the chance of complications.

Safe food handling at home and when dining out is important: cook foods to recommended temperatures, refrigerate perishables promptly, and avoid foods that are especially risky when eaten raw or unpasteurized.
