Arsenic

Arsenic is an element that occurs naturally in soil, rock and water and may also be present because of past or current human activities. Plants can take up arsenic from soil and water, allowing it to enter the food supply.

Arsenic occurs in inorganic and organic chemical forms; inorganic arsenic is generally the greater health concern. FDA monitors arsenic in foods and works to reduce exposure, with particular attention to foods consumed by infants and young children. Eating a varied diet can help reduce repeated exposure from any single food source.
