Dioxins

Dioxins are a group of persistent environmental contaminants that includes certain dioxins, furans and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). They can be released through combustion and industrial processes and can persist in the environment.

Because some of these compounds accumulate in animal tissues and move through food chains, diet can be an important route of exposure. FDA monitors foods to assess dietary exposure and identify opportunities to reduce contamination.
