Food safety away from home

Food safety does not stop at the kitchen door. Whether eating at a picnic, traveling by car, or camping, safe food handling depends on clean hands and equipment, separating raw foods from ready-to-eat foods, maintaining safe temperatures, and cooking foods thoroughly.

Plan ahead for drinking water, handwashing, cold storage, and safe leftovers. Foods that require refrigeration should not remain in the temperature danger zone for extended periods, especially during hot weather.
