Foods in refrigerator and freezer

A closed refrigerator typically keeps food cold for about four hours during a power outage. A full, unopened freezer may preserve food for approximately 48 hours; a half-full freezer, about 24 hours.

Perishable refrigerated food that has been above 40°F (4°C) for more than two hours should generally be discarded. Frozen food containing ice crystals or measuring 40°F or below may be safely refrozen or cooked, depending on the food.
