Refrigerator and freezer problems and solutions

If a refrigerator or freezer fails, first determine how long the food was without adequate cooling. Use an appliance thermometer and, when appropriate, a food thermometer to assess the actual temperature of food.

Do not taste food to decide whether it is safe. Prioritize disposal of potentially unsafe perishables and clean and sanitize equipment after a leak, flood, or other contamination event.
