Reporting a foodborne illness

If you believe a food caused illness, contact your healthcare provider when appropriate and report the suspected illness to your local or state health department. Reporting can help investigators detect outbreaks that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Be prepared to describe symptoms, when they began, foods eaten during the preceding days, and other people who became ill. Because incubation periods vary, the most recently eaten food is not necessarily the cause. Seek prompt medical attention for severe symptoms or dehydration.
