Pregnancy and safe food

Pregnancy food safety includes choosing foods carefully as well as preparing them correctly. Higher-risk foods can include unpasteurized milk products, raw sprouts, raw or undercooked animal foods, and certain refrigerated ready-to-eat products.

Check product labels for pasteurization, follow current guidance for deli meats and similar foods, and use a food thermometer where appropriate. Recommendations may vary by product and individual medical circumstances.
