Safe thawing

Thaw frozen game meat in the refrigerator, in cold water inside leakproof packaging, or in the microwave. Never thaw meat on a countertop, outdoors at room temperature, or in warm water.

For cold-water thawing, change the water every 30 minutes; cook promptly afterward. Meat thawed in the microwave should also be cooked immediately. Refrigerator thawing generally provides the most flexibility for planning meals.
