Tree nut

Tree nut allergy is an immune reaction to proteins in one or more tree nuts. Tree nuts are one of the nine major food-allergen groups. U.S. labels must identify the specific type of tree nut used, such as almond, walnut or pecan.

For a diagnosed food allergy, the principal preventive measure is avoiding the allergen. Consumers should follow medical advice and read labels every time because ingredients and manufacturing practices can change.
